[What is the latest macOS? - MacPaw](^1^)

As updates that change a macOS version number become available, this article is updated to show the latest version of that macOS. If a later version is compatible with your Mac, you can get it by updating macOS on your Mac.

Latest Os For Mac

The latest version of macOS is macOS 13.0 Ventura, which Apple released on October 24, 2022. Apple releases a new major version roughly once every year. These upgrades are free and are available in the Mac App Store.

The previous two versions of macOS also receive security updates and bug fixes. The latest version of Monterey is macOS 12.6.2. Big Sur is macOS 11.7.2. Those updates include critical patches as part of a security update.

However, that changed slightly with Mojave, which arrived in 2018. Now operating system updates come in via a new Software Updates pane in System Preferences. You can still find the software in the Mac App Store, but you will also see it in System Preferences > Software Update. One of the benefits of this is that your Mac can be set to automatically download the latest updates and install them, keeping your Mac up-to-date with minimum effort on your part.

macOS has supported three major processor architectures, beginning with PowerPC-based Macs in 1999. In 2006, Apple transitioned to the Intel architecture with a line of Macs using Intel Core processors. In 2020, Apple began the Apple silicon transition, using self-designed, 64-bit ARM-based Apple M series processors on the latest Macintosh computers.

Systems with "Current" support the latest version of the macOS, macOS Ventura (macOS 13). Systems marked "Current*" (Current and an asterisk) also are capable of running macOS Ventura, but there may be some unsupported features. Systems with other OS versions listed and an asterisk are capable of running that version of the operating system (but no higher) and with limitations. See the specs page for a particular model for details.

Currently I am using Node.js v0.6.16 on Mac OS X 10.7.4. Now I want to upgrade it to the latest Node.js v0.8.1. But after downloading and installing the latest package file from nodejs.org, I found that system is still using v0.6.16 instead of v0.8.1 when I typed "node -v" in a terminal. Is there any step that I have missed? Or, should I thoroughly uninstall the old version before installing the latest one?

There is, in fact, hope for users of many old Mac models. With a bit of effort, you can use a source-available, third-party utility that makes it possible for you to run the latest macOS version on significantly older hardware, with (for the most part) relatively minimal caveats.

Congratulations! Your older Mac will now be able to keep up with the latest security updates. Although firmware updates are not included (those are model-specific, and Apple only releases them for supported Macs), your macOS will nevertheless be much more secure than it was with the old version of Mac OS X you were running before.

A surprising but welcome new feature lets you invite non-Apple users to join FaceTime calls via the latest versions of Chrome or Edge running on Windows or Android devices. It's a rare instance of Apple opening the door to the Appleverse to users outside, and it comes with a safety feature. When you send a link to join a FaceTime call in a browser, it might get into unwanted hands, so anyone already participating in the call can cut off access to a browser-based intruder in the first 30 seconds after the intruder joins.

Taking a look at macOS compatibility (discussed below), we can see that most of the time, Macs are eligible to get the latest macOS version for about seven years. Apple generally supports each macOS version for three years.

Each year around September or October, Apple releases a new version of macOS. Mac models from the past several years are capable of running it. This means if your Mac is too old to update to the latest macOS version, it's becoming obsolete.

If you can't afford the latest model or want to save some money, you can opt for an older or refurbished Mac. Just keep in mind that the older the computer you buy, the sooner it will become obsolete. You'll have to decide how long of a Mac lifespan you want for the money you spend.

Wondering whether your Mac is too old to run macOS Monterey? Each time a new version of macOS is released, some older models are excluded from the update. We'll show you how to find out if your MacBook or Mac desktop can be updated to the latest version of macOS, and what you can do once you can no longer update your Mac.

When you stop or terminate a Mac instance, Amazon EC2 performs a scrubbing workflow on the underlying Dedicated Host to erase the internal SSD, to clear the persistent NVRAM variables, and to update to the latest device firmware. This ensures that Mac instances provide the same security and data privacy as other EC2 Nitro instances. It also enables you to run the latest macOS AMIs. During the scrubbing workflow, the Dedicated Host temporarily enters the pending state. On x86 Mac instances, the scrubbing workflow may take up to 50 minutes to complete. On M1 Mac instances, the scrubbing workflow may take up to 110 minutes to complete. Additionally, on x86 Mac instances, if the device firmware needs to be updated, the scrubbing workflow may take up to 3 hours to complete.
