DIY Photo Ornaments: A Budget-Friendly and Creative Project

We absolutely love making all different types of Christmas ornaments. In fact, last year for one of our Testors Crafternoons, we had our contributor Tonya demonstrate how to paint Christmas ornaments. And today we are thrilled to host another Testors Crafternoon to show you how to make stunning photo ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree.

To try out a base coat before transferring my images, I spray painted some of my wood ornaments with Testors Crafts Aerosols in muted colors such as Smokey Beige and Linen White before applying my photo transfer. I also prepped some of my wood ornaments with Testors Foam Primer.

Once again I tested which method worked best. I tried it three ways: I spray painted the backside of the ornaments before I applied the photo transfer; I spray painted it while the photo paper dried; I spray painted it after the photo was transferred.

I love to make Christmas ornaments every year with my family. I have not done photo transfer. It sounds so fun. We have used popsicle sticks, clothes pens, pipe cleaners, styrofoam ball ornaments and even the clear ornaments you decorate the inside like a snow globe. We love crafting together as a family especially holiday crafts.

I am so happy to have found this post. I make ornaments every year. This year, I am doing photo transfer ornaments. Just which I had found this before buying the Mod Podge. Oh well. Really looking forward to completing my ornaments.

Make multiples of these simple leather gift tags in 15 minutes or less. Tuck them atop gifts, around the neck of a wine bottle, or tie them to the handles on a gift bag. A custom-made leather gift tag will give the gift a handmade touch.

Make multiples of this simple Christmas ornament in 15 minutes or less. Tuck them atop gifts, or inside Christmas cards, as a small handmade gift. Or, create a whole set of DIY leather ornaments to give as a Christmas gift.

Follow the packaging instructions and mix up the first layer of resin. Mix exactly equal amounts of Resin and Hardener into one measuring cup. The volume will depend on how many ornaments you plan to make at one time. I mixed up 1oz each of the Resin and Hardener to make 3 ornaments. Stir continuously for 2 minutes, scraping the sides of the container. Pour the mixture into a second cup and stir for an additional minute (use a new stir stick). Scrape the sides of the container as you mix.

Set the pieces on a level surface and cover to prevent dust from falling in. After about 15 minutes, remove any bubbles that have risen to the surface by gently blowing over the ornaments through a straw or using a small kitchen torch. Repeat if necessary after another 15 minutes and up to about an hour all the bubbles are popped. Use a clean straw each time to avoid moisture from your breath collecting inside the straw and transferring onto the piece.

Out of all of the Christmas crafts out there, learning how to make resin personalized Christmas ornaments is a really thoughtful and personable gift option. Not to mention a great way to use those student class photos for making something personalized and homemade.

Making personalized Christmas gifts is my favorite thing to do during the holidays! Today I am showing you how to make easy photo ornaments with your Cricut machine. The best part about this craft is that it is fast, so you can make a lot quickly, and it also allows you to capture memories from photos and display them on your tree. These DIY photo Christmas ornaments are a showstopper as a last-minute handmade Christmas gift!

Bake the ornaments in a 300F oven for at least 45 minutes, or up to an hour. Mine are usually ready in one hour. Yes, I know that seems like a long time! But, you want to remove all the moisture from the dough to help preserve the ornaments.

Salt dough is a fabulous, quick, and easy clay-type material to make at home or in the classroom on a rainy day with kids. But one of the big drawbacks is the time that it takes to dry especially if you dry in the oven or air dry it. So this microwave salt dough recipe cuts the drying time down to just 3 minutes and is ideal to use to create your Christmas ornaments.

700w microwave, (which I thought was quite a weak one?) tried two rectangles 11cm X 15cm x 3cm and got serious cracking and puffing up issues. first was two minutes then 30 seconds stops, second attempt was even less than this. Probably will be sticking to oven or air dry from now on to be honest ?
